Meet Lucas — one of the calm, steady pou in our Red Door whānau.

Lucas is a counsellor here at Red Door Recovery and is currently in his third year of training in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy. His passion is deep and genuine: discovering more about who he is, and helping others grow into who they are meant to be — to find their place, their purpose, and their voice in this universe.

With lived experience in addiction, Lucas carries a softness and a quiet strength that our tangata whaiora feel immediately. He is gentle, thoughtful, and deeply present. Clients often tell us how safe they feel with him, how seen, how cared for. He walks alongside people with patience and humility, supporting them to navigate the path toward healing, recovery, and lasting change.

Lucas is passionate about helping others break free from substance use and addiction, and he brings a grounded, compassionate energy to our whare every day. He’s also an animal lover, a deep thinker, and someone who leads with heart in everything he does.

He brings the CALM to Red Door.

Lucas shares:
“I know people can change, and I know life can get better. There was a time in my own life when I did not believe that, when things felt stuck and numbing it all seemed easier than facing what was underneath. But change is possible. People can find their way back to themselves, heal, and find their purpose in this crazy world. That truth is a big part of why I do this work.”

He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.
We’re grateful for the heart he brings to our whānau.
