Our Kaupapa

At Red Door Recovery, our kaupapa is grounded in the belief that healing happens through working deeply on ourselves together, connection, aroha, and whānau. While the traditional Therapeutic Community model has guided addiction treatment for decades, we knew our people needed something more personal, more culturally aligned, and more responsive to trauma. From this vision, we developed the Therapeutic Whānau model — a way of working that honours each person as an individual while surrounding them with the strength of collective care.

With intentionally low client numbers, our community becomes a true whānau. Tāngata whaiora support one another, learn alongside one another, and ensure no one is ever lost in the crowd. This closeness creates safety, accountability, and a deep sense of belonging — the foundations of meaningful, lasting recovery.

Many of our kaimahi carry lived experience of addiction and long‑term recovery. This is not an add‑on to our service; it is central to our kaupapa. It allows us to meet people with authenticity, empathy, and a level of understanding that cannot be taught. We believe every person deserves the opportunity to realise their full potential and reclaim a life free from substance harm — and we walk that journey with them, not ahead of them.
