Meet Matiu Te Huki our Pou Ārahi

As a renowned Māori musician, cultural ambassador, and transformational workshop facilitator, Matiu carries a lifetime of wānanga, leadership, and deep cultural immersion. His mahi weaves haka, story, movement, and music into powerful pathways of reconnection—helping people find strength, presence, and inner peace through the Māori voice and spirit.

Matiu brings a unique blend of grounded wisdom, humour, and heart that resonates deeply with our tāngata whaiora. His presence creates a space where people feel safe, supported, and inspired to step into new ways of healing and growth.

 Matiu shares:
“It’s a privilege and pleasure sharing my haka workshop and supportive mahi with the tāngata whaiora at Red Door Recovery.

It’s one thing to have the opportunity to help people who are in such pivotal moments in their challenging lives, but to do so in such a warm and safe environment makes a huge difference… supporting each other and feeling safe to try on new modalities of growth and healing makes my job sharing through the Māori culture even more effective and enjoyable for us all.”

We also love when Matiu brings his partner, Laquita, whose healing feminine energy beautifully complements the kaupapa—adding depth, balance, and aroha to the experience they share as a strong, unified team.

Together, they embody the essence of manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and cultural strength.

We are deeply grateful to have them walking alongside us and our community and sharing their medicine.

He waka eke noa — we move forward together, united in purpose.
