Meet Thomas — our Overnight Supervisor and a powerful example of recovery in action.

Two years ago, Thomas returned to our programme after a relapse that pulled him deep into addiction. We already knew the man he was, and with community funding he was able to re‑engage, rebuild, and rise again.

He moved from client, to volunteer, to peer support — and now he stands as a supervisor in our whare. Thomas connects with people from all walks of life and brings lived experience, compassion, and real recovery wisdom into our whare.

We’re proud of you, Thomas.

What made you want to continue your journey and start mahi at Red Door Recovery?

Red Door gave me structure, connection, and a sense of purpose. It reminded me who I am.

Starting as a volunteer just felt right. I wanted to give back what was given to me.

Now as a supervisor, it’s about showing up for others the way Red Door Recovery showed up for me.
